Ogbonna completes Hammers move

West Ham United are delighted to announce that Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna has completed his transfer to the Club.

Ogbonna, 27, arrives on a four-year deal after joining from the Italian Serie A side for an undisclosed fee.

The Italy international is the second Serie A player to make the move to the Boleyn Ground this summer, following Pedro Obiang's transfer from Sampdoria and he cannot wait to get going.

He told whufc.com: "I am delighted to have joined the Club. I wanted to play in the Premier League and am happy to be in London. My heart told me that the right decision was to play for West Ham United.

“I cannot wait to start working under Mr Bilic and with my new team-mates. I feel ready for this new adventure.”

A strong and powerful defender, Ogbonna won a host of admirers during his time with Juventus, in which he collected two Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana.

Born in Cassino in the Lazio region of Italy, Ogbonna began his youth career in his home town before being spotted by Torino at the age of 14.

He made his top flight debut at 18, and after gaining further experience with a loan spell at Crotone, he returned to establish himself in the Torino side.

The Granata suffered relegation in 2009, but Ogbonna helped them reclaim their spot at the top table before moving across town to Juventus in 2013.

The 6'3 defender continued his progress with the Old Lady, making 25 appearances in his debut season at Juventus and backing that up with the same number of league appearances last term.

He picked up league winners medals in both of his seasons with Juve, and was on the bench as they lost out to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final in May.

A natural at centre back who can also play at left back, Ogbonna has been capped ten times by his country and was a member of the Italy squad which finished as runners-up at UEFA Euro 2012.

It's nice that some people want 5 at the back some want 5 across the middle. Not often that we can say with our squad it wouldn't weaken us whatever we choose

A big test in the summer is whether we hold on to players like this with Man U sniffing around. Hopefully they will finish below us!

Re: Angelo Ogbonna - Signed!
What a shock, Italian international with 10 caps at centre half is good enough to play for us!

Re: Angelo Ogbonna - Signed!
I really like his distribution, doesn't over do it, clears his lines when need be, but mostly finds players in good positions with his passes.

Cracking signing, and a real leader as well. Stayed on when he could easily have come off against Spurs, which goes completely against what the idiots on here were saying about him.

We should have switched to a back 3 with the left footed Ogbonna on the left

I'm such a football genius. Bilic gets the plaudits for doing this against the yids!

Re: Angelo Ogbonna - Signed!
His signing really intrigued me. At interview Slav when asked upon positional weakness and signongs identified the top priority as a left sided CB. Said he had seen every game of the season and was convinced. Shocked the board.

So we signed the bloke and his initial delay in selection and being hooked confounded that thinking.

What a player he is now though? Excellent observation by the manager and an early example of his tactical awareness of which we have subsequently seen plenty of

Eager to see how he goes about getting a resullt today.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna - Signed!
He is our best defender in terms of ability. Both him and Ginge are absolute warriors at the back together, completely fearless. If only Ginge had the same composure and a touch more pace, what a centre back he could have been. Great nonetheless and one of our HOTY candidates but I do feel his days are numbered as a starter.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna
I personally think this ones all a load of bollocks. Bilic should be able to spot a decent defender a mile off so why he'd want to sign this waste of space is beyond me.

I'm sorry I just don't see bilic taking leave of his senses.

He's dogshit and very disappointing West Ham still pay money for these type of players. I thought Billic was forward thinking. Seems not if buys this pile of shit.

Much rather pay top dollar for the best centre half in the Championship.

Ps I note Hendries twitter account shows him making the trip up to scouse land today

Re: Angelo Ogbonna - Signed!
Thought he'd be a ready made replacement for Ginge but they have been excellent alongside each other.
With Reids form being patchy this season and Tomkins pushed into full back, I think he could well be our best all round centre back this season.

Lets face it he is pony.
"Reid qnd tomka will be the first choice in the long run.

Could have bought a decent midfieldet for his outlay.

Clueless cunts"

Hahaha, no wonder you've got no mates
